Shrewsbury’s historic houses include entrances where the door and the glazing above it form a single composition. At 64 Abbey Foregate, an early nineteenth-century brick house has a six-panelled door and overlight within a moulded surround. It is a useful example of why retaining the balance of an entrance matters.
For an older home, a panelled design and carefully positioned glazing may help preserve that relationship. A later house can offer more flexibility, although the door should still relate to nearby windows and the approach to the property. We can help you compare finishes and hardware around those details, with original joinery and any historic requirements assessed before changes are made.
