Initially created to protect orange trees from severe winter conditions, orangeries have transformed from their humble beginnings in Italy and Holland to become a standout feature of any residence. These home extension structures were usually constructed from brick or stone, with sturdy walls facing north to guard against the cold, and tall windows facing south to optimize sunlight and invite in natural light.
With over three decades of experience in installing orangeries, we bring expertise to every project. Our commitment to quality shows in the 20-year guarantee we offer on all our products.
This guarantee reflects our confidence in the durability and longevity of our orangeries, providing you with peace of mind for years to come. We’ve spent years perfecting our craft, ensuring that your investment delivers lasting value and enjoyment for your home.

An orangery offers a bright and spacious room that connects indoor and outdoor spaces, making it ideal for kitchens, dining rooms or living areas. It enhances natural light while providing better insulation than a standard conservatory. Orangeries can also increase property value due to their permanent and high quality structure.
Costs vary depending on size, foundations, glazing, roof structure, planning requirements, the need for structural steelwork and how it connects to the existing property. Additional costs may involve plumbing, electrics and design services. Although an orangery is an investment, it often adds more value to the property than its initial cost.
Some orangeries fall under permitted development, but many require planning depending on size, design and location. Wombourne Windows’ architectural services assess requirements early in the process and handle all necessary applications, ensuring your project is legally compliant.
Modern orangeries use advanced roofing systems, insulated pelmets, high-performance glazing and engineered frames to retain heat. As a result, they can be comfortably used throughout the year and often outperform older conservatory styles in temperature control.
